Attributed to Gillows, a mahogany pedestal architect’s desk, circa 1790. The gilt, double-ratcheted, leather-tooled writing surface having rising candle flap and detachable document rest, above a secretaire drawer revealing a green baize writing slide, above six hinged inlaid lettered compartments and two secret compartments. The sides having fitted brass handles and hinged candle sconces, central recess flanked by three drawers to each side, fitted with brass handles, 96cm h x 126cm w x 70cm d. There are 2 ring marks to the leather writing surface, the desk is sun bleached in places, small section of cock beading missing to the bottom left side and bottom centre of the secretaire drawer and to the back of the faux door, there is a burn to the right pedestal.
