A 19th Century Continental cast gilt metal rectangular bird automaton with ribbon and bow corners and guilloche enamel lid the sides with cavorting angels and wreaths, operated by a sliding lever to the front opening an oval hinge cover to reveal the singing bird with coloured feathers, from a pierced foliate grille , having a keywind to the base 9.5cm h x 3cm x 6cm SOLD £1000

This lot works intermittently. Whilst the bird moves when the box is wound, there is no sound. The bird does not rise fully and does not go back in the box automatically when finished. The lid will not stay shut. The bird has lost most of its plumage down one side. The enamel and the box are generally in good condition.
