Lot 239
Aubert & Klaftenberger, 157 Regent Street, London. An unusual walnut floor-standing domestic regulator in the Gothic taste circa 1865. The single train movement with dead beat escapement, set silvered Roman chapter ring with outer minute track and second subsidiary dial, incorporating an unusual brass and glass rod pendulum, fitted 12 brass capped mercury vials with adjustment pointer to base. The case, with foliate carved and pierced cornice above a hollow high relief carved band of flowers, the door with arched apertures flanked by flower heads and lattice pilasters, raised on chamfered and shaped plinth base 79.5"h x 18"w x 14"d ILLUSTRATED FRONT COVER Aubert & Klaftenberger was created in 1835 by an International partnership of 2 watch retailers, the London based C.J. Klaftenberger and D.F. Aubert of Geneva. The firm was held in high esteem by Prince Albert, receiving regular orders for clocks and watches from 1845 onwards and favoured by both the Queen and the Prince as the supplier of watches to be presented as gifts. The Company was also contributor to the Horological Section of the Great Exhibition, winning the Honourable Mention from the Jury. In 1859 Aubert & Klaftenberger were awarded a Royal Warrant SOLD £9500

The case has a few very minor repairs, the returns to the top of the cornice and back timber have been replaced perhaps to make a repair where the case had previously been cut to fit into a certain area such as under a staircase. The entire top of the cornice is removable. The foliate carved band beneath the upper cornice is of superb quality. There is a small length of "branch" missing from the front right hand. The trunk of the case has a crack above the arch on the right hand side. There is a small crack to the top left hand corner (moulding) on the left hand side. The trunk door/front of clock (removable). There are two vertical cracks to the top centre and bottom of rose. The chamfered plinth base is generally in good order but there are scuffs and scratches to the extremities and corners. The interior bottom board is cracked and has a designated hole for the weight in the corner. The dial is in near perfect original condition and has some tarnishing spots to the outer board. There is a small dent/scratch visible to the front plate of the movement. The movement is generally very clean and well serviced. There are a few light scratches to the back support. The pendulum is very unusual and is in very good order.
