Lot 240
An 18th Century 8 day London longcase clock with 5 pillar movement, the 12" arched dial with subsidiary second hand and calendar aperture marked Tho. Cartwright London Fecit, to the top marked Dum Spiro Spero, contained in a mahogany case 91" high ILLUSTRATED FRONT COVER SOLD £2200

The clock is complete with weights, pendulum, winding key and keys for the case locks. As the dial sits in the case very well and is evenly viewed and the movement sits on the seat board at the correct height we are assuming that it is either the original case and movement or they have been very well matched at a later date. There is some damage to the case; there is a chip to the wood above the arched glass on the hood and the columns are loose. There is a chip to the wood where the hood slides onto the case and there is a chip to the front bottom left hand corner of the hood and a small section of replacement veneer to the right hand side curved section immediately under the hood. The sloping to the base where the body meets the case is loose on the front left hand side. PLEASE NOTE that we do not guarantee clocks or watches to be in working order, nor do we comment on their time keeping abilities.
