A handwritten letter written by John Ruskin -
Chamonix, 2nd August
Sir,
There are perhaps one or two things among the notices of the scenery of Chamonix in the accompanying volume which may possess some interest for you or Miss Trevelyan during your stay. The book is tattered and has private notes in it, so I would ask Miss Trevelyan to favour me by its acceptance; but if it contains anything of interest to her, I will order one to be sent to her address in England.
The sketched outline of the approach to the Pelvoux opposite p. 217, is I believe truer than most things of the kind.
It gave me great pleasure to be the first, as I think, at that spot, last night, to felicitate your daughter on her well won crown of alpine rose. Perhaps, at some time of leisure, you would put me still more in your debts by permitting me to wait upon you, and hear the details of your journey.
I am, Sir, with sincere congratulations, Very respectfully yours, J. Ruskin.
