  • A rare mid 17th century Interregnum stumpwork portrait depicting a child dressed in richly articulated costume, holding a small dog beneath his left arm. In his hands he carries a quill and a letter inscribed "Give Thy selfe to learne my slam (psalm, 1656". Enclosed within an oval cartouche of leaf and berry motifs, further flanked in each corner by four winged angels. Composed of raised work consisting of collage and embroidery, using various fabrics, silk, coloured wool and metallised threads, on a pale gold silk ground, printed extract from Sir Matthew Hale's diary verso, 20cm x 17.5cm, within a dark stained wood frame.

Note: this rare and historically important Victorian photograph is of exceptional significance as the source material for the iconic album cover of Led Zeppelins fourth studio album (1971), one of the most influential and recognisable records in the history of rock music. £1500-2000

  • Ethel Luella Curry (Canadian, 1902-2000), "Eastlake North Haliburton County", oil on board, signed recto, titled and dated July 1932 verso, 20cm x 25cm, within a painted wood frame. Note: Ethel Curry was a Canadian painter, printmaker, potter, and educator. Born in Irondale, Haliburton County, Ontario, in 1902, she studied at the Ontario College of Art beginning in 1924, where she learned from and worked alongside members of the Group of Seven, including Arthur Lismer and J.E.H. MacDonald. While in Toronto, Curry formed a lifelong friendship with fellow artist Doris McCarthy; the two met as students in the 1920s and later both taught in Toronto high schools. Curry spent much of her professional life as an instructor at Northern Vocational School before retiring in 1965 and returning to Haliburton, where she remained active in the local art community until her death in 2000.
